Joe Wroten

Joseph Eason Wroten (February 28, 1925 – March 17, 2005) was an American politician in the state of Mississippi. He served in the Mississippi House of Representatives as a Democrat from 1952 to 1963.〔https://s3.amazonaws.com/family_documents/joseph_e_wroten_oral_history_msu.pdf〕 He lived in Greenville, Mississippi. Wroten is known for opposing Governor Ross Barnett's efforts in 1962 to stop James Meredith from attending the University of Mississippi, which saw the Ole Miss riot of 1962. Wroten was defeated in his bid for re-election the next year.〔()〕
He was a lawyer, having attended Ole Miss, graduating in 1948. He later worked as a judge. From 1984 until his death in 2005, he was Clerk of Court of U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Mississippi. Wroten died at the age of 80 on March 17, 2005.〔http://djournal.com/news/obituaries-march-18-2005/〕
